The 2025 Committee

The club is run by a voluntary committee, made up primarily of active diving members who are elected annually by the rest of the club. Their role is to represent the members and help ensure the future success of the club.

However, it's important to note that the committee is just part of the bigger picture—many members outside of the committee also play a crucial role in supporting the club and helping with its day-to-day operations. We’re all volunteers working together to make the club thrive.

If you’d like to learn more about the committee or find out how you can get involved, feel free to speak to any of the current members. The club always welcomes input and support in its general running.

Diving & Training Officer - Matt Parker

I first learned to dive in 2011 with Chelmsford Scuba Diving Club and completed my Dive Leader qualification in 2016 while diving with Southampton University SAC.

I’ve been with Scarborough Sub Aqua Club since 2019, after moving to the area with no idea just how good the local diving is. As soon as I stepped into the clubhouse and saw it packed with artefacts from local wrecks, I knew I’d found the right place.—there’s a lot to explore off the Yorkshire coast!

I’m now an Open Water Instructor and really enjoy taking new members on their first dives in open water. It’s great to be part of someone’s diving journey right from the beginning.

I joined Scarborough Sub Aqua Club in 2019 shortly after qualifying as an Advanced Open Water Diver through PADI. I'm now a BSAC Dive Leader working towards my Advanced Diver qualification and an Assistant Open Water Instructor. I really enjoy organising dive trips, skippering the boats and seeing divers progress.

Wreck diving is my passion—exploring these underwater time capsules and researching about their history fascinates me. I also love underwater photography, capturing the sea creatures that call these wrecks home.

My diving journey began when a friend suggested we dive a submarine off Flamborough Head. I thought he was crazy, but a few months later, I did a try dive, and once I was underwater, I knew I was hooked!

The club’s rich history is something I find truly fascinating, and I’m grateful for the opportunity that members has given me to progress in my diving career and to take part in the amazing adventures and projects that we do together.

Hard Boat Officer - Lee Perkins

I’ve been diving officially since 2006 and hold a Sports Diver qualification with BSAC, as well as a PADI Dive Master certification. I got into diving to explore wildlife and their habitats, especially coral, though it’s sad to see how much of it has died over the years.

One of my favourite dive sites was in the Philippines. I was diving a wall at 45 meters, with the water at a toasty 31°C. As I swam along, I unexpectedly came across a sea snake, highly venomous, but we just watched each other for a bit, waved, and carried on our way.

I started diving after a few beers in my local pub—many great adventures begin that way!

Outside of diving, I also enjoy sailing yachts, which keeps me out on the water in a different way. Diving is a wonderful sport as long as you stay safe and take your time—there’s so much to see beneath the surface!

RIB Boat Officer - Spud Ulliott

I’ve been with the club for about 17 years now. I’m an Advanced Diver and Open Water Instructor, and I’m really passionate about the environment—especially when it comes to snorkelling with a purpose, helping to protect the waters and marine life.

My diving journey actually started back in 1983... after a night in a bar in Spain! (It’s a long story, but worth asking me about!)

For me, the best thing about the club is the social side and the massive pool of knowledge that everyone’s always willing to share.

As Boat Officer, I look after the RIB and make sure it’s ready to get us all out on the water for our next adventure.
